Kilometer 152: Condura 2009: Skyway Run for the Whale Sharks(Part 1 of 2)
Posted March 24th, 2009 by wilson

In a Nutshell

Wonderful, wonderful race. The Condura Run lived up to the high expectations of the Filipino running community, and maybe even exceeded them. This is very nearly every runner’s dream race come true: from the route to the giveaways to the water stations, this race got nearly everything, if not everything, right. There was a lot of talk about running in the SkyWay, and quite frankly, while I was excited, I did think it was already getting overhyped. I had experienced the Kalayaan flyover and the flyovers of Roxas Boulevard before: how different could it be?

Condura Run (RUN FOR THE WHALE SHARKS)

Today I ran for the whale sharks together with my sisters , cousins and schoolmates it was surprising when I got to the fort . There were too many people more than what I expected but one thing good they were already prepared for that much people and parking was not a problem for everyone. The event overall was a good one if someone will ask me if I’m going to join the same event next year I’m sure I would say yes.

Condura Skyway Run

In preparation for the much anticipated running event of the year “The Condura Run“, my esposo and I did a practice run last Saturday to avoid any injuries (we don’t want that, do we?). We did a 3x run around the UP Oval and 2x bike around it. I believe that in preparation for any examination, any test or any run, I should rest my mind a body before the big event. But this race is an exemption for my rule, not being able to run for the past few weeks due to busy schedule at home, we managed to squeeze a practice run.

Condura: Run for the Whale Sharks

It was a great feeling running with friends! Smberks joined the Condura Run 2009: Run for Whale Sharks last March 22 at the Bonifacio Global City, Taguig. 5k runners are Jhiengle, Odhie, Nhelle, Jomz, Adrian and me. Tito Ed, the ever astig Ronaldrei and Ron for 21k. This was my first 5k run and certainly easier than my usual 10k race. The girls and the two boys did it well too considering we only had a quick stretching before checking in.

Condura Run 2009

Here are my pictures during the Condura Race Run 2009 held earlier this morning. Apparently, it was earlier than I thought because even though I am pretty sure I arrived around 5:25 AM, the “commissioners” informed me that I was already left behind. Major bummer, hence no time for flexing.

The Condura Run 2009: Run for the Whale Sharks

I have already done my water therapy the whole day today in preparation. Tomorrow, I’ll be running for the benefit of the whale sharks! The Condura Run 2009 is happening tomorrow (March 22, 2009 Sunday) at Bonifacio Global Open Grounds, Taguig City. At first I fancied joining the 21k half marathon main event, but just when I was about to complete the registration form and was about to check the box of my choice, I came to my senses. I figured I’ll be killing myself like what I did the last time just running the 10km event given that I’m as heavy as a whale shark. And so I ended up signing up for the 5-kilometer run instead. I’m sure the whale sharks wouldn’t mind.

Good luck to those running Condura Run ‘09

This is one big event that I will surely miss back home.  It’s the Condura Run: Skyway run for the whale sharks.

Enjoying the 2009 Condura Run

The 2009 Condura Run is by far the most popular and most awaited race this year.  I was able to join last year’s 10k race so I am expecting the same enjoyable experience as before.  It was even better because of the inclusion of the SKYWAY (can I just say huhahhh! *clap one thousand times*) in the half-marathon route.  Only I was missing some of the kilometer markers..were there markers every kilometer or so?

“Half-Virgins” No More

The Condura Run 2009 was a great race. The route led us all the way from the Fort to the Kalayaan Flyover, the stretch of Sen G. Puyat Ave (Buendia) up to the Skyway and back. There were sufficient marshals and water and portalets were conveniently placed in various points along the race route. There were freebies and souvenirs. What I liked most was that as you pass the finish line, the finisher’s medal is being placed by somebody around your neck. I remember Jaimie Dy quipping that she waited for this to happen since kindergarten, lol!

Race Day Magic

I woke up at 3am. That was the earliest I have ever set my alarm for a race. At 4am I was already on my way to Doc Lyndon’s house to lend my vehicle for the takbo.ph support group. I should not complain for I actually had it better. Doc Lyndon was up much earlier and did the back-breaking task of loading sports drinks and bananas into his vehicle, and coordinating with the support crew. All I did was prepare the liniments, petroleum jelly, band-aids and water spray bottles. With our respective vehicles sequestered for support, Lyndon and I rode with his in-law Ton, also a new runner and a half-marathon virgin like us.

Condura 2009: Skyway Conquered

My Condura 21K Race

It was a clear indication that running has now become so popular as the highly anticipated Condura Race unfolds yesterday. Thousands of runners took the challenge of testing their limit in the 21K half marathon race. I heard that many of them were running this distance for the first time. I am one of them who tried for the very first time. I started running last May 2008 and have ran several 5K, 10K and 15K races and have thought that it’s about time to try the longer distances.

Condura Race March 22, 2009 - Post Race

The event a lot of runners have been waiting for has finally arrived and it was met with excellent results!

Prior to this race, I was a little wary of being able to complete my Half Marathon at a good time given I had a hard time doing my practice run at Ultra last Friday. I was walking - running -walking around the oval track as I set to target 8km. I couldn't run the entire distance and was just so tired with some pains in my feet and thighs!

"L" is for... (Condura Run)

Lifted Running
The Skyway route was great! I was initially thinking of backing out and just running with the 10K runners for a PR, but then realized that I might never get the chance to run on the Skyway again. I'm glad I did. It was such an experience.

Donald Duck on the Skyway

I ran my first half-marathon yesterday at the Condura Run! Yoo-hoo!
As I write this, my legs are sore, my body is fatigued, but my heart is bursting with thankfulness, the joy and pride of accomplishment, and residual good ol' runner's high.

It was a most memorable race. And one that I almost didn't run.

Running Behind : The Condura 09 Race

A runner runs through it. This was not the movie produced and directed by Robert Redford sometime in 1992. This was not about the two Montana boys who became different under the influence of their father, but rather a story about the skyway which was conquered by many during the condura run for the whale sharks. Here are some of the teasers that took place somewhere close to the sky.

From ‘kabado‘ runner to ‘nginig’ runner.  Yikes, I just made my first 21K at Condura sound like a horror movie.  No.  Cannot be.  Cathletic is excited.  She is.  Cathletic will do it and she will do well.

SkyWalker – Simulated 21km Condura Run by Amado L. Castro

The Condura Run 09 – “Skyway Run For the Whale Shark” is just a fortnight away. To be able to benchmark my race walk performance for the said event, I decided to have a simulated 21 km distance run today starting at the Fort Bonifacio High Street all the way to Bayani Road and turning back after reaching Heritage Park thence to McKinley Hill complex and back to High Street then to International School and back for a last lap at the High Street circle. This was a perfect 22.3km run with the ups, downs, twist and turn to put pressure and challenge to the distance.

My First Race Bib for Condura Run

After registering in the Condura Run at Nike Park Robinson’s Ermita, I finally received my first Race Bib. I’m not really sure what i felt but I was happy that finally I’m going to do it. It was last year when the idea of me, joining a marathon or some sort of running event occurred. Even though I’m not that prepared and I’m still overweight but what the heck ,when will I start if not now, when?
